APRIL 2018

From the CEO ... Lynette Brady

And it all starts now ... The season has already started with the top 16 Premier Club teams having their first grading games a couple of weeks ago and the rest of the Club teams start grading this Saturday, 28th April.

We have 104 Year 4 to Year 8 teams entered into our Junior Pre Season Tournament this Sunday, 29th April. It will be a fun experience for our young teams and will get them started for the season ahead. The day will also be supported by our naming right sponsor, Barfoot & Thompson, with some fun activities in the Arena for our young players as well as some spot prizes on the day. Good luck to all those teams entered.

With the start of the school term, the College and Intermediate teams begin their grading games and the Primary teams start with the all important Primary Administration Evenings in the first week which we encourage all Year 4 to 6 coaches and managers to attend to find out how the competitions run here at Netball North Harbour. The Mother Earth futureFerns Coaching workshop for the Year 1 to 3 teams is being held on Monday, 7th May.

We are pleased to present to every member this year a handbook which includes offers from sponsors, player profiles and programme information.

The Super 12 competition finals are approaching on Sunday, 6th May at Pulman Arena in Papakura.  Semis are being played this Friday, 27th April, with Collegiate playing Fraser Tech at 8.00pm for a place in the final, Shore Rovers playing for 5th – 8th against Hustlers at 6.30pm and Commodores 6th – 12th against Mellons Bay at 8.00pm, all games are in the Onewa Arena.

Good luck for the season and remember to enter the SIC Clinic's Map My Run competition. Entries close 30th April.

Rule of the Month:

  • A player may attempt to intercept the ball or defend a player with the ball provided they are not within 0.9m (3 ft) from the landed (grounded) foot of the player with the ball.  The distance is measured from the landed (grounded) foot of the player with the ball.
  • If the player with the ball steps back from the landed position, the defending player may not step into the 0.9m (3ft) defending space.  Likewise, if the player with the ball moves into the 0.9m (3ft) space the defending player does not need to move.  This is not obstruction.
  • A defending player may be within the 0.9m (3ft) of the player with the ball provided there is no interference with the throwing or shooting action of the player.  The defending player may not make any attempt to defend or intercept the player with the ball.
  • A player who is within 0.9 (3ft) of a player without the ball, may not, whether attacking or defending, use movements that take the arms away from the body so as to limit the possible movement of an oppenent (ie "aeroplane" arms in younger players).

For more Obstruction rules and information please refer to Rule 11.1 of the International Netball Federation Rule Book

Netball North Harbour App

With the start of the season, the App is the perfect place to find your draws and results!  If you haven't aready, download the App from your phone store (search Netball North Harbour).  It's a great tool for draws, up and coming events and programmes.

Facility & Events

  • Our car park has been repainted, but is a lot narrower than previous years due to the footpath work, as a result of this several spots are now NO PARKING and are marked with yellow lines or say No Parking!
  • Please note, There is no parking in front of the pedestrian crossing on Northcote Rd.  This is now a No Parking area due to the narrowness of those carparks as well as for the safety of pedestrians crossing the road.
  • Please keep your speed down and keep an eye out for people (especially children) running in and out around cars.
  • Please respect and adhere to the instructions given by the Maori Wardens.  They are there for the safety of all and have the full backing of Netball North Harbour and the NZ Police.
  • Please don't leave valuables in your car as we have had break-ins in the carpark in the past.

Don't forget our rules here at NNH, they are there for a reason!  We have just spent thousands of dollars over summer fixing 3 courts due to water damage which is caused by sharp objects such as umbrella points digging into the rubberised surface.

**No dogs (except Guide Dogs) ** No scooters or bikes **

**No smoking or vapors anywhere on the premises (including the carpark)**

**No stilletos ** No chewing gum! (this sticks to the courts and can't be removed)

Entries close 30th April 2018
